CAKE MIX is a blog about music and culture based out of Ottawa, Canada. The focus will be to promote local talent and inform more people about various events around town. We are in no way professional critics… think of us more like that friend who always wants to bring you out to the bar down the street to see a band you’ve never heard. Maybe you’re that person too. We love those people.
Why?
If you’ve ever been to a really great show and spent the night wishing there was something more you could do to support the artist(s), you’ll understand. Maybe we can’t set up the next gig or cover the cost of producing the next record… but we can tell everyone we know to go see the next show or buy the new album when it comes out. So that’s what we’ll do.
What if I want to promote an artist/event?

So, Nickelback played Bluesfest tonight… and while they likely had a full field of fans, the internet buzzed with people expressing their dislike for the Canadian rockers. What is it about this particular band that inspires such loathing?
Are there less talented musicians who play this city? Yes, probably. Are there artists with worse hair? Rougher voices? More obnoxious personalities? Sure.
For the most part, when a band you can’t stand comes to town, it’s enough to simply skip the show and go on with your life. With Nickelback, we feel the need to state explicitly: “I am trying as hard as I can to avoid any association with this band.”
The most reasonable answer we’ve come up with (other than the idea that the haters are just a bunch of pretentious indie music snobs) is that everyone is just upset by the way the band continues to be extremely successful playing the same formulaic grunge rock they’ve been playing for years. Perhaps, ironically, it’s their popularity that makes them so unpopular with so many people?

I have noticed, that alothugh some peole dont like the band, which is fair, it just tumblr loyalists following like sheep when it comes to it
